New Delhi, March 07, 2014:
The Government of India has informed the United Naga Council (UNC) in written that the process to form a special committee or high level committee to examine the 'Alternative Arrangement' for the Nagas of Manipur "is underway".
Addressed to the UNC on March 5, a letter to the Naga body by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said that it would seek clarification from the Election Commission of India (ECI) whether the formation of the special committee on the Alternative Arrangement will affect the Model Code of Conduct of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
If it is going to affect the Code of Conduct of the polls then the announcement of the formation of the special committee on the Alternative Arrangement will only be made after the Parliamentary polls.
Meanwhile, getting assured from the Government of India in written, the elated UNC leaders have left New Delhi for Manipur on Thursday.
"Yes, we are optimistic and happy that things are sailing well on the Alternative Arrangement issue," a Naga leader said over phone.
