Imphal, March 07, 2014:
Coming back from a goal down, Tekcham Polo Club-A managed to carve out a 5 goals to 3 win over MPSC-C and enter the quarter final stage of the 24th Governor's Cup Invitation Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Wary of the importance of the match both teams took to the field, keen to put up their best efforts.
S Abungcha of MPSC-C was definitely the star of the police team, but found no support from the others and that did them in, in the end.
The police team went ahead in the first chukker, when S Abungcha on his mount safely negotiated through the defence of Tekcham Polo Club and sounded the board to help his team take the lead in the 1st chukker.
However the team from Tekcham came back strongly in the 2nd chukker with Th Kaoba finding the target twice with the police players failing to reply with any goal.
Having taken a one goal lead, Tekcham Polo Club stamped their class in the 3rd chukker too, scoring twice.
The goals came from M Manihar and M Doren, while a listless police team were unable to score even once.
Down by one goal to four, the police team re-organised themselves and started playing as a team in the fourth chukker.
S Abungcha was at it again in the 4th chukker for the police team when he scored twice to reduce the margin, but this proved a little too late and too little as M Tomba of Tekcham Polo Club scored in the 4th chukker to take the match away from the reach of the police team.
Though the police team did try hard to come back into the match, the players from Tekcham rose to the occasion and recorded a win by a margin of 5 goals to 3.
