Farewell cum reception ceremony

Jail staff members accorded warm farewell to outgoing Senior Superintendent of Jails IK Muivah and heartily welcomed new incumbent SP (Jails) B Goulianmang at a farewell cum reception programme held today at the Manipur Central Jail premises in Old Lambulane.
Delivering the fare speech, IK Muivah acknowledging cooperation and support of the jail staff in the smooth administration of the prison prevailed on the personnel for continuos endeavour in bringing about positive changes in the coming years.
Revealing that he was disheartened on seeing pathetic condition of the facility at the time of his appointment as the SSP (Jails) on January 1, 2012, Muivah said his top priority inspite of fund constraints was on cleanliness and discipline among the staff members as well as the inmates.
He also stated that positive coverage given by the media on activities of the jail staff members motivated the personnel for further excellence.
Muivah has been relieved from duty as the SSP (Jails) following his recent promotion to DIG (R-1). Speaking at the occasion incoming SP (Jails) B Goulianmang, who hails from Churachandpur district but has been staying at New Checkon for the past three decades, called upon the jail staff members to share their opinions and provide positive suggestions from further improvement of the jail administration.
Conveying he worked as a teacher for seven years in addition to a brief stint in a financial institution (Bank), he maintained that spiritual, physical and moral characters of the people are essential conditions for Manipur to become a progressive society.
Goulianmang also emphasised on the need for handling the prisoners with humane touch to enable them become responsible citizens after release from jail.
