North East Mela held at Hojai

The 5 days Nungshi Channaba North East Mela, organised by the United Committee Manipur under the sponsorship of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation has started on March 5, 2014, at Hojai, Assam, according to statement of ND Luwang, Secy, IPR, UCM.
Ima Keithel was also inaugurated by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister, Commerce and Industry, Sericulture and Vety and Animal Husbandry.
Rajen Gohain, MP; John Tlangtinkhuma, Director, Commerce and Industries, Manipur; Y Leirik Leima, President, Kanglami; Johnson Elangbam, President, IPSA; M Nandamohan, Poramlen Apunba Marup, Assam; A Shyamkishor Singh, President, Ima Keithel Inauguration Committee Hojai, Th Babu Singh and Romi Devi also attended the function.
Chief guest Govindas Konthoujam said that any Manipuri residents outside the State can undergo a handloom and handicraft training in Manipur and the training expenditure will be borne by the Handloom Department.
Joychandra Konthoujam, Secy General, United Committee Manipur (UCM) said that the State's handloom and handicraft products are in high demand in countries like China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
He added that the Ima Keithel in Imphal is the only market in the world which is meant only for the womenfolk and the second being in Hojai, Assam.
He said that the market will help in economic development not only for the Manipuris in Assam but rather for the whole State as well.
