Imphal, August 14 2026:
Two Naga civilians were killed and two others sustained injuries in a deadly attack carried out by KRA and KNF which are under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Governments.
The Kuki militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked two Naga villages located along the Imphal-Tamei road under Kangpokpi district, early this morning, sources said.
Langka Naga village came under fierce attack from well armed Kuki militants at around 7.30 am when the villagers were on their way to paddy fields for farming.

It was suspected that the Kuki militants planned the attack in advance and they already took positions in the area from the wee hours, said the sources.
One of the farmers identified as Wiriliangbou Chawang (34) died on the spot while Kawidinang Abonmai (55) succumbed to his injuries on the way as he was evacuated to a safer place.
Two other farmers of Langka Naga village sustained bullet injuries in the attack.
The two victims who survived the attack have been identified as Maliangjinang Abonmai (52) and Namthiulungbou Prinmai (50) .
However, due to indiscriminate firing from Kuki militants, it was difficult to retrieve the injured persons from the spot.
The injured persons and the bodies of the deceased victims were later airlifted to Imphal for emergency medical treatment and post mortem procedures.
Notably, Langka Naga village is approximately 45 Kms from Imphal.
Naga village volunteers also retaliated by firing toward Kuki militants who were trying to advance to Langka Naga village by opening indiscriminate firing.
Intermittent firing between Kuki militants and Naga village guards went on till around 10 am but there was no report of any further injuries or casualties at Langka Naga village.
On the other hand, another group of Kuki militants carried out a similar attack at Makhui Naga village located some distance away from Langka Naga village along the Im-phal Tamei road.
Naga village guards retaliated resulting in an exchange of firing between the two sides.
After the initial hot exchange of fire ceased, intermittent firing went on till around 10 am, said the sources.
There was no report of any injuries or casualties in the attack at Makhui Naga village.
Soon after the incident, security forces rushed to the incident sites and took stock of the situation.
In view of the tense situation gripping the area, additional teams of security forces had also rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Speaking over telephone, some Langka Naga villagers questioned how Kuki militants numbering more than 50 managed to sneak through undetected and attack Langka Naga and Makhui Naga village despite the presence of CRPF personnel in the nearby area.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Working Committee has asserted that the deadly attack was carried out by armed Kuki cadres backed by the Kuki National Front (KNF) and Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) .
As many 50 cadres led by KNF leader Jangboi Kipgen along with the KRA laid the ambush and launched the deadly attack on Langka village at around 7.30 am .
Today's armed offensive occurred days after abandoned houses in Kailenjang were set ablaze by the Kuki themselves while falsely blaming the Nagas for the incident on August 10, 2026, said a press release issued by the TNL Working Committee.
KNF and KRA, both under SoO agreement with the Government of India have been rampantly engaging in armed violence against the Nagas after Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand issued a 15-day deadline for armed volunteers to surrender their weapons.
All this while, the Naga civil volunteers have been maintaining restraint and restricting themselves to defending their villages and protecting innocent civilians.
In this wake, the armed Kukis have been advertently and strategically taking advantage of the situation against the Nagas, it said.
While condoling the death of Wiriliangbou Chawang and Kawidinang Abonmai, the TNL Working Committee has urged the State and Central Governments to rein in and initiate necessary actions towards the Kuki militants under SoO agreement, the armed Kuki villagers, the Kuki narco-terrorists and the illegal migrants, from causing terror towards the peace loving Nagas.
In case the Governments fail to act responsibly in time, the ongoing conflict that has the tendency to escalate further considering the Kuki's overture to the present crisis will be construed as a strategic political movement against the Nagas by the present political dispensation, it added.
