Windstorms hit hard Ukhrul, Tamenglong, IE districts

Ava Market, the lone women's market in Ukhrul town, bore the brunt of heavy windstorms that blew on Friday night.
The nature's fury caused a partial damage to the ceiling portion of the market, forcing many vendors to suspend their daily business on Saturday.
Following the incident, a team of Tangkhul Leihsak Long (TLL), the district's trade & commerce council, led by its president Peacemoon Zimik on Saturday visited the site and took stock of the situation.
Over a dozen ceiling boards have been damaged and debris seen scattered on the floor, while many other ceiling boards were hanging precariously.
Out of safety concerns, many vendors operating under the damaged ceiling had to stop their business.
Later, the TLL team submitted a representation to the district administration, urging it to take up immediate repair work of the damaged ceiling.
Meanwhile, a catering venue set up at Khuman Lampak in Imphal East district for officials and sportspersons from seven northeast states, taking part in the ongoing 28th North East Regional Sports Meet was blown away in the thunderstorm that swept the state in the early hours of Saturday.
The catering was reportedly set up in a make shift manner with tin roofs at the parking space in front of the Indoor Stadium.
However, it was blown away during the thunderstorm, causing extensive damages.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
TAMENGLONG: Another thunderstorm within a week on Saturday morning damaged and blew away a school hostel and kitchen at a village in Tamenglong district.
Wisdom English School, a private school at Tousem Khunou under Tamenglong district suffered damages due to the heavy rain and thunderstorm in early morning Saturday.
GCI (tin) sheets of the hostel and kitchen as well as other structures of the two buildings were damaged badly.
However there is no casualty caused by the thunderstorm.
A similar thunderstorm few days back also affected Tousem area in Tamenglong district and in Noney district as a whole.
Trees and branches were snapped and uprooted in many areas, and power supply cut off in the two districts as people continue to reel under difficult circumstances.
