NE Sports: Manipur clinch 3 medals on Day 3, men's team in football semis, boxers on track for rich medal haul

Imphal, April 30 2022:
Manipur claimed a gold medal in table tennis and a silver and two bronze medals in archery on the third day of the North East Regional Sports Week as the men's football team, along with Assam, Mizoram and Tripura qualified for the semifinals on Saturday.
TABLE TENNIS
The hosts' second gold medal in table tennis came courtesy of Khelendrajit Yengkhom and Ksh Segal Singh who beat Assam's Zeed-an Gogoi and Kalyan Singh 3-1 in the final of the men's doubles event.
En route to the summit clash, the state pair overcame Assam's Kaushik Kr Phukan and Chanakya Monu Gogoi 3-2 in a tight contest.
Meanwhile, Assam's Adrija Sharma and Liyah M Hussain won the women's badminton doubles event title after beating fellow pair of Pra-tiksha Konwar and Akankhya Borpujari in an all-Assamese final.
Mizoram, on the other hand, claimed the mixed doubles gold with the help of Lalthansangi Sailo and C Lalmuanawma.
The Mizo duo beat Assam's Kaushik Kr Phukan and Adrija Sharma 3-2 in their summit clash.
ARCHERY
In archery, Manipur's
Akoijam Amarjit Singh and Thounaojam Swashita Devi finished behind Assam in the mixed team recurve event to secure the silver medal as Nagaland's Kilenmeren and Ruovinuo Theunuo took the bronze.
Production Borgoyray and Promila Saimary helped Assam win the mixed team recurve event.
The hosts also collected two bronze medals in individual Olympic round recurve event on Saturday as Yumnam Anupama came out third in the women's event and so did Akoijam Amarjit Singh in the men's event.
Earlier on Friday, Manipur clinched the men's team recurve gold medal while the women's recurve team bagged silver.
FOOTBALL
A 1-0 defeat in their third match could not prevent Manipur from advancing to the men's semifinals.
Despite their loss to Tripura, the state squad manage to emerge as Group B winners courtesy of their big win against Arunachal in their previous game.
Tripura scored their winner through Debraj whose early 2nd-minute goal propelled his side to the last four after finishing second in Group B.Manipur will take on Group A runners-up Mizoram in their semifinal match on Sunday, May 1.Earlier in the day, Assam carved out a 1-0 success against Mizoram to top Group A.They will face Group B runners-up Tripura in the first semifinal match on Sunday.
Rakeb Basumatry netted the only goal of the Assam-Mizoram match in the 22nd minute.
In the women's football semifinals, Manipur will square off against Nagaland as Sikkim clash with Assam on Monday, May 2 .
BOXING
State boxers are on track for a rich medal haul as 20 of them made it to the finals of the boxing competition on Saturday.
The women's event saw Thiyam Apsana Devi (-46kg;), Yumnam Venika Chanu (-48kg), Kayenpaibam Bandana Chanu (-50kg), Maibam Rosemary Chanu (-52kg), Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu (-54kg), Huidrom Ambeshori Devi (-57kg), Huidrom Griviya Devi (-60 kg), Kshetrimayum Tilotama Chanu (-63kg), Kshetrimayum Silky Devi (-66kg), Tingneilhing Chongloi (-70kg) and KM Renu (-75kg) all book gold-medal bouts.
The finalists in the men's event were Md Mujahid (-46kg), Soibam Yaiphaba Singh (-50kg), Awungshi Ngathingpam (-52kg), Pukharambam Jackson Singh (-54kg), Laishram Edison Singh (57 kg), Chungneireng M Kom (-60kg), Heigrujam Bijoy Singh (66kg), Oinam Brandon (-70kg) an d Leimapokpam Rahul Singh (-75kg).Nagaland's Archana Thapa (-48kg), Sh Shila (-52kg), H Jamuna ( 57kg), Sanju (-63) and Monu (-75kg) also progressed to the finals.
Four Mizoram's boxers -Ruthi Lalhminhthai (54kg), Naom Chingsannuami (-60kg), MC Vankimmawi (-66kg) and FC Lalthlamuanpuii (-70kg) - secured final spots in the women's competition.
Among other women finalists were Arunachal's Tagru (-46kg) and Gora Yalung (-50kg) .
On the other hand, other men's finalists included five from Arunachal Pradesh, namely Heli Tana Tara, Taw Pakha, Karling Venia, Marge Gara and Gyamar Taba.
Two each from Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam also reach the men's final round.
