AR foils narcotics, timber smuggling

Imphal, April 30 2022:
In two separate operations, Keithelmanbi Battalion of IGAR (South) foiled narcotics and timber smuggling in Ukhrul and Thoubal districts on April 29 and 27 respectively.
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on specific inputs, troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police launched search operation and recovered 40 kg of opium and 16 gunny bags of poppy seeds from four drug peddlers in Songphel village of Ukhrul district.
The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth approximately Rs 3 crore, the PRO informed in a release.
In another operation, troops of Assam Rifles reportedly intercepted four trucks carrying illegal timber in Chandrakhong area under Thoubal district and recovered timber is estimated to be worth Rs 2.42 lakh.
The recovered items along with smugglers have been handed over to Litan Police Station and Forest department for further investigation.
