Firing incident at Maram Bazar leaves many injured, 3 critical

A firing incident which took place on Friday night in the heart of Maram Bazar has left many local youths injured and 3 others in critical condition at Imphal Hospital.
In a release, Maram Bazar Village Authority alleged that a group of people including a son of an MLA came heavily drunk after partying at Naojei and began fighting among themselves at around 7:30 PM in the heart of Maram Bazar.
The village authority continued that when local youths of Maram Bazar tried to stop the fight and requested them to properly park their vehicles as it was causing inconvenience to vehicular movements along National Highway-2 the group brutally assaulted 3 local youths.

It alleged that one K Hepuni also challenged Maram Bazar Village secretary K Daniel with abusive language when he went to stop the fight.
The village authority also alleged that the sudden appearance of the MLA's escort personnel out of nowhere at the spot even in the presence of police personnel of Maram Police Station further aggravated the situation.
"Meanwhile, some members from Golai/Makhan side started pelting stones to the people on the other side even as police personnel and local leaders were in the middle of the two warring sides that had inflicted injuries to 8-Maram individuals including the 2nd OC of Maram Police Station, Peter Rona", it added.
The village authority also alleged that one Robbinson drove a Gypsy car recklessly inside the crowds while K Hepuni supported by escort personnel resorted to gun firing with service weapons and SBBL gun inflicting injury to 7 Maram youths and leaving 3 others in critical condition battling for life at Imphal Hospital.
"Even after the arrival of reinforcement Police personnel led by Karthik, SP Senapati, IPS, at around 11.45 pm, gun firing unleashed by K Hepuni and party continued, not deterred by the presence of reinforcement team", it alleged.
The Village Authority further informed that a FIR has been registered at Maram Police Station to take immediate action against the perpetrators.
