Protesters briefly block NH at Papal Lamkhai

Condemning the death of Tekcham Joyshanker alias Thambou, who was an inmate of Th Biren Rehabilitation Centre, on April 27, protesters blocked National Highway at Papal Lamkhai, Khongjom for a while on Saturday demanding arrest of those involved in the alleged, killing of Joyshanker.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, one Tekcham Ibetombi informed that Joyshanker was the only child of a widow.
He died due to assault by operators of the rehab centre, she alleged, while adding that they brought Joyshanker to his home after he succumbed.
While pointing out that there were several bruises on the body of Joyshanker, she demanded the government to punish all those involved in the alleged killing.
The lifeless body of Joyshanker has also not been claimed, she added.
The protesters shouted slogans condemning the act of the rehabilitation centre, suspicious death of Joyshanker and demanding punishing of all those involved in the incident.
Later, Khongjom police arrived and managed to pacify the protesters, thereby allowing movement of the stranded vehicles on one side of the highway.
Five of the protesters were also allowed to meet the Thoubal SP.
Meanwhile, a release issued by the JAC formed demanded punishment of the owner of the rehab centre and all those involved.
It also demanded shutting down of the rehab centre; checking of all rehab centres set up illegally and looking after the family of the deceased.
The JAC further cautioned of launching intense protest from May 2 by joining hands with CSOs if the government ignores the demands.
