Pherzawl district records no Covid violators, vehicles

Imphal, January 30 2022:
The Police Department detained six persons and imposed a total of Rs 1600 (Rupees one thousand six hundred) only as fine during today's drive in their to bid to crack down on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a statement issued by Rojit Irom, Staff Officer to IGP (Ops) for Nodal Officer (COVID-19) for Manipur Police, the six detained persons were released later after receiving stern warning.
It may also be noted that the fines were collected from Thoubal and Bishnupur district only.
As per the figures released, so far a total of 1,58,730 guideline violators and 51,850 vehicles have been detained and a total of Rs 2,63,59,160 has been imposed as fine by the police across the State.
A district-wise break-up of these figures in terms of cumulative violators detained sees Thoubal in first place with 72,265, Imphal West in second with 30,087 and Bishnupur in third with 25,149 violators detained.
Thoubal district also placed first in terms of cumulative vehicles detained with 17,379; Imphal West in second with 8,607 and Bishnupur placed third with 8,521 vehicles detained.
Thoubal District further saw the highest cumulative fine imposed by the Police Department with Rs 69,48,190 imposed as fine.
Following Thoubal is Imphal West with Rs 63,52,850 cumulative fine imposed and trailing behind them in the third place is Bishnupur with Rs 50,87,190 imposed as fine.
In a stark contrast to these figures, Pherzawl district hasn't seen detainment of any violators or vehicles nor imposition of fines.
In Kamjong district, only 108 guideline violators have been detained so far, with no detainment of vehicles and the cumulative fine imposed across the district amounts to Rs 20,860 .
The Police Department has warned of strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws against those who violate the Covid guidelines and restrictions, the statement added.
