Poll preparations for IE complete: Diana Khumanthem

While informing that the district administration has carried out relevant processes for conduct of the assembly elections, Imphal East District Election Officer (DEO) Diana Khumanthem has revealed that polling stations in Yaiskul and Wangkhei assembly constituencies (AC) in the district will be managed by women polling personnel only.
Speaking to media persons at Imphal East DC conference hall located at Porompat on Sunday, Diana Khumanthem informed that out of the 10 constituencies in the district, there will be five returning officers (RO) and every RO will handle two constituencies with an ARO each to assist the officer.
The DEO said that the total number of electors in the district is 3,22,517 of which 2,710 are service, 2,929 PwD and 5,014 above 80 years of age voters.
It has two electors under preventive detention and same number of UG cadres bound by the SoO pact.
They will be allowed to cast their votes through postal ballot.
The district will have 433 polling stations, out of which 222 are designated as normal, 181 vulnerable and 63 critical, she continued, while assuring that every polling station will have the necessary facilities such as ramp, toilet and drinking water.
In addition to this, five wheelchairs will be fitted in a van for each constituency.
Voters who are in need of wheelchairs can avail the benefit.
Braille voter guide will also be installed for blind voters, she continued.
Diana further said that 2165 polling personnel will be deployed in Imphal East district for the smooth conduct of the election and adequate strength of security personnel will be used.
Training of polling personnel for the first phase has been already completed and the second phase will begin shortly.
A total of 541 EVMs will be used.
Service voters can cast their votes through ETPBS while PwD, suspected Covid infected voters and voters above 80 years could cast the vote through postal ballot.
Informing that 783 vehicles will be utilised for the district in the election, she further said that every constituency will have a strong room and the ten strong rooms for the district will be at SIRD hostel block, DC complex.
The polling personnel will be despatched from Modern College, SDO Porompat complex and EYCA ground to their respective polling stations one day ahead of the polling day.
Votes along with ETPBS will be counted in five counting halls and every counting hall will be under CCTV surveillance.
While urging every voter to participate in the upcoming election which is the biggest festival of democracy, Diana Khumanthem exhorted the candidates to strictly follow the model Code of conduct and ensure free and fair conduct of the election.
