Imphal/New Delhi, March 07, 2014:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finally confirmed Hueiyen Lanpao's expose on the leakage of Physics question paper for All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (AISSCE)-2014 conducted by the Board on March 5. The confirmation came after State Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro spoke and wrote to CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi yesterday for taking strict action against the erring officials and conducting re-examination of the leaked Physics paper.
According to some New Delhi-based news agencies, CBSE has filed an FIR in this regard and promises strict action against those found guilty.
CBSE has now issued a notice on its official website calling students in Manipur for a re-examination.
The notice read as "Due to administrative reasons, it has been decided to cancel the examination in Physics for All India Senior School Certificate Examination, 2014 held in the centres situated in the State of Manipur.
It has been decided to conduct re-examination of Physics in respect of all the centres of Manipur." The Physics re-examination would be now conducted on April 2, 2014 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.
It may be mentioned that a similar case had emerged in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the year 2011.Four people were convicted in the case and were sentenced to life.
The convicts had hatched a plan to get the CBSE Class XII question papers leaked for the benefit of their children.
The question leakage exposed by Hueiyen Lanpao has drawn numerous comments and views from the students and other stakeholders on social networking sites and other online forums.
The leaked sets of Physics question paper uploaded on Hueiyen Lanpao's website was shared on Facebook, Twitter and several other web portals such e-pao.net, kanglaonline.com and manipurtalks.com.
Some sites like icbse.com and cbse-nic.in also uploaded the Hueiyen Lanpao's report, but in a negative light.
The website cbse-nic.in said that Hueiyen Lanpao is the culprit which had leaked out the question paper online for Rs.3000 to 5000.Another site uploaded the screenshot of one Hueiyen Lanpao staff member's Facebook status saying that the Physics question paper was leaked out on the social networking sites through the Facebook account of that Hueiyen Lanpao staffer.
Many students who have visited the sites termed the question leakage as unfortunate and demanded re-examination for all centres across the country not just for Manipur centres.
They claimed that many students outside Manipur might have also downloaded the leaked question paper prior to the commencement of the examination.
The CBSE's decision to conduct re-examination only in Manipur centres would be unjust to students of other regions.
The CBSE has eight regions across the country and Manipur falls under the jurisdiction of Guwahati Region.
The question papers for all regions of CBSE are divided into as Delhi and Outside Delhi.
The leaked Physics paper question was meant for Outside Delhi and so it should be the same for all regions except Delhi, an educationist told Hueiyen Lanpao.
The aggrieved students are now campaigning to urge the CBSE authorities to conduct the re-examination for the leaked Physics paper throughout the country and not just in Manipur.
They are signing petitions on change.org to be submitted to the Examination Controller of CBSE for all India re-examination of Physics paper.
On the other hand, the CBSE on Thursday rescheduled the dates of the Class 12 examinations that clashed with the Lok Sabha poll dates.
Now, under the new schedule, the exams will end on April 25. After the Election Commission announced the election schedule on Wednesday, the Board realised that the dates of around 30 examinations had to be rescheduled.
Urdu Core, Urdu Elective and Music exam papers scheduled for April 9 will be now held on April 25. Sociology and three other exam papers scheduled for April 10, when Delhi goes to the polls, have now been postponed to April 21. Exams on Philosophy, Entrepreneurship and around 10 other subjects scheduled for April 12 will be held on April 19. Exams on Agriculture, Graphics, Creative Writing and Translation Studies and three other subjects scheduled for April 17 will be held on April 22. The dates in respect of other subjects will remain the same as before, said CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma.
