Imphal, July 22 2022:
Langol Environment Preservation and Conservation Committee (LEPCC) has asked the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) to stop construction of new building in National Game village park A area, previously known as Meitei Langol, for housing the tribal people.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, LEPCC secretary H Mangijao pointed out that National Game Village Park A which was developed in connection with National Games is an important place for the Meitei as there are many religious shrines and also it is a playing area for sports enthusiasts.
The plan of PDA to
construct a G+7 building in the area to accommodate tribals driven out from Tribal Colony, New Checkon will not be accepted, he made it clear.
Recalling that the Committee had lodged a complaint to
Manipur High Court against the PDA's project plan, he said that the PDA appealed to Supreme Court against the direction of the High Court and started resuming the construction with deployment of
security personnel.
While pointing out that as approaching the Supreme Court entails substantial expenses to foot bills of suave legal practitioners, he urged the people to help them and further exhorted to stop the acts of PDA.
Mangijao also informed that they are prepared to launch several forms of protest by joining hands with different organisations.
The press conference was
also attended by representatives of different Meitei-based organisations.
