Governor hails Tilak

Governor La Ganesan has conveyed his greetings on the 165th birth anniversary of Bal Gangadhar Tilak which falls on July 23 .
In a statement, the Governor shared that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was bom on July 23, 1856 in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
He was an active Indian political leader who fought for Indian autonomy from British colonial rule, the statement added.
Bal Gangadhar Tilak appreciated the importance of identity issues in modem India and motivated people to join the struggle for independence, the' Governor stated.Reiterating the political leader's famous quote "Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it", the Governor said that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of 'Swaraj' .
The Governor opined that Atmanirbhar Bharat is the legacy of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and attributed him with creating the blueprint for the Home Rule and Swadeshi movement.
