Imphal, July 22 2022:
All Manipur Road Transport Motor Workers' Union has demanded the government to take action against Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) for calling blockade instantly along National Highway and causing unprecedented inconveniences to the drivers heading towards the state.
Speaking to media persons at Sekmai, Union's general secretary Maimom Anil Meitei opined that calling instant bandh along National Highway is wrong and further asserted that MDA is an association without an office that pretend to uphold interest of the drivers.
The unreasonable bandh called by MDA from Thursday midnight has left many trucks stranded at Mao and Tadubi.
MDA should bear responsibility for any consequences if trucks are damaged, he cautioned, while demanding the government to take action against the association.
Stating that the union is working for welfare and safeguard of all the drivers regardless of their affiliation to different organisations, Maimon continued that the drivers were not assaulted and kept under lock up in the Motbung incident as alleged by the MDA.
Forest department only instructed to bring in sand into the state by possessing the requisite transit pass.
If the drivers were assaulted
then the union will fight from the front.
However, causing inconveniences to the drivers over a matter which could be easily settled between forest department and sand owners is unfortunate, he
denounced.
