Imphal, July 22 2022:
Taking a dig at the Central Government on the price hike of essential commodities, the Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has asked if the Modi led Government is going to levy Goods anc: Servic Tax (GST! for breathing too.
A press release issued by CPI-MSC said that the NDA Government deciding to increase GST on numerous items is a dangerous move as it will have a negative impact on small States like Manipur which have limited resources.
Saying that people of Manipur, being a landlocked State, cannot afford establishing a big agro-industry and in its place there are handful of small scale industries, the Left party said that the rate at which Manipur exports agro food products is quite minimal.
Most of these small scale industries market their products in Manipur itself.
Claiming that the way at which the Central Government is levying GST will discourage innovators who run small scale industries, it added that increasing the GST by another 5 per cent is akin to eradicating small scale industries.
Saying that the GST hike on certain other items from 5 to 12 per cent and several other items from 12 to 18 per cent is hitting the people hard especially those who run small shops, CPI opined that the hike on GST will gradually affect both the poor and rich alike.
This move of the Government is a deliberate attempt to make everyone poor, the Left party added.
Claiming that the NDA Government is not paying any heed to the issues being raised by the Opposition in the larger interest of the people, the CPI-MSC stated that they, nonetheless, will launch necessary movements to save the people.
