Imphal, July 22 2022:
Keibi Khullen residents alleged that the Revenue Department has issued Dag Chitha to some individuals in Sambei Purum reserved forest area under Imphal East district.
Addressing a press meet at the village on Friday, Keibi Khullen Development Committee executive committee member Laishram Ropen said that the reserved forest area included in Sheet No, 1 of village number 22 of Imphal East district, has been under the joint care of Keibi Khullen Development Committee and the forest department.
There are signboards and boundary stones to mark proper boundary of the forest area.
Surprisingly, some individuals started cutting down trees and taking up construction works in the area recently.
Upon enquiry, they found that Keibi Mayai Leikai Village Development Committee issued no objection certificate for some portions of the reserved forest area to some individuals and consequently, the Revenue Department allotted Dag Chitha for the same.
Even though the committee of Keibi Mayai Leikai issued NOC, the revenue department should understand the law and refrain from issuing Dag Chitha, he said.
Due to such irresponsible acts of the revenue department, some individuals are now trying to project the said area as disputed area, he said while appealing to all concerned to stop all types of construction works until the matter is resolved.
He also drew attention of the state government for conducting a proper survey in the area.
