Police, NAB arrest five with opium, heroin

Imphal, October 15 2022: In all five persons were arrested from different parts of the state in the last 48 hours and drugs recovered from them.

In separate incidents, teams of Kakching district police and NAB police station arrested man with 696 grams of heroin and three others with 3.82 kg of Opium on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The person arrested by Kakching police has been identified as Seikholet Haokip (19) son of Ngamkholal Haokip of Moreh Home Guard Veng.

According to a police report, based on inputs about contraband items being smuggled from Moreh to Imphal by some unidentified persons, the district police led by commando OC inspector Md Abash Khan and subedar Ksh Prakash conducted frisking and checking of vehicles along NH 102 at Laimanai Chingjil, near Pallel commando outpost.

Out of the vehicles, unregistered Maruti Gypsy was thoroughly checked during which 20 soap caps were found containing heroin.

The arrestee along with the seized has been handed over to Kakching police station for further investigation, it added.

On the other hand, in continuation of the war on drugs 2.0, a team of NAB police station apprehended three persons with 3.82 Kg of Opium near Bengoon Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal around 5.20 pm Friday.

The three have been identified as MV Mujibullah (42), son of Md Azizullah of Khelakhong Mayai Leikai; Md Fajudin (22) son of Md Najir Ahmad of Khelakhong Khongman Maibam Konjil; and Md Riyajuddin (22) son of Md Maheruddin of Khelakhong Mayai Leikai Irong Chesaba.

According to police, a Honda Activa (MN01A/B6702), an unregistered Honda Dio and three mobile phones were recovered from the trio and a case registered for further action.

In another drug haul case, a team of NAB PS apprehended a man with 2.040kg of brown sugar during an operation carried out in Pukhao Terapur area on Saturday afternoon.

The arrested man has been identified as Lukhongam Haokip (40) s/o Janglet Haokip of Langkhong village, Kangpokpi.

According to a police report, the team was conducting an operation near Dolaithabi Dam in Pukhao Terapur area at around 3pm Saturday, when an Access 125 (MN 06SC-5133) was halted for checking and arrested Lukhongam Haokip.

Around 2.040 kg of brown sugar were seized from his possession.

NAB PS has taken up a case against Lukhongam and the seized item for further legal action, the report conveyed.
