24th National Congress of Communist Party of India commences

The 24th National Congress of the Communist Party of India (CPI) began yesterday at SS Convention Hall, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
The National Congress of CPI is being attended by 960 delegates, said a press release by Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) .
Presenting the inaugural address, CPI General Secretary, D Raja alleged that the incumbent BJP Government and RSS are keen on destroying the unified identity of the country by bringing in divide and rule policies.
Owing to such alleged evil tactics, the rights of the poor and working class communities are being violated, he added.
He assured that CPI will continue to strive earnestly for the welfare of the needy and working class and will strongly fight against any form of oppressive rule.

Before the presentation of the inaugural address, the party flag of CPI and Indian Nation flag were hoisted outside the hall by former General Secretary of CPI, Sudhakar Reddy and Comrade R Nillakannu, one of the oldest members of CPI and a freedom fighter respectively.
National Executive members of CPI including Dr M Nara from Manipur, CPI (M), CPIML, AIFB and foreign delegates from China, Cuba, Japan, France, Russia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Palestania and Vietnam etc also attended the event.
Many eminent members of CPI and fraternal delegates including Comrade M Sitaram Yechuri of CPI (M); Comrade Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPI (ML) and G Devaranjan of Forward Block among others also spoke at the occasion.
The history of CPI and contributions of its founder leaders was displayed on an electronic screen on the backdrop.
On the first day of the Congress, a mass rally was carried out from Gandhinagar till MB Stadium yesterday.
In today's afternoon session, tributes were paid to the departed leaders of CPI in the past three years and observed one minute silence as a mark of respect.
