HC rejects bail plea of accused in SIMS case

The High Court of Manipur has rejected the anticipatory bail of the four accused in the alleged rape case of a student of Saina Institute of Medical Science (SIMS), The anticipatory bail applications of accused Yumnam Surjit Kumar, Yambem Sonia alias Nonibala, Laishram Kunjarani and SK Wajid Shah mentioning Women PS Imphal West officer in-charge and the victim (complainant) as respondents, were examined in the court of Justice MV Muralidhar.
After listening to the arguments of both sides, the Court observed that the anticipatory bail cannot be granted considering the gravity of the offence committed by the petitioners, to understand the specific roles played by the petitioners in trying to avoid the punishment and the blame, and the high possibility of petitioner Surjitkumar committing a similar crime again in the future.
It further observed that that there was no valid reason justifying the anticipatory bail of the petitioners and as such, the bail applications hold no merit.
Thus, the court dismissed their anticipatory bail applications and further vacated the anticipatory bail submitted to the court on August 31 .
