New Gram Panchayat 'Arapti Urup Gram Sabha' formed

A Gram Panchayat named 'Arapti Urup Gram Sabha' was formed under Imphal East - II, CD Block, Keirao Bitra in Imphal East district.
In connection with the formation of the above Gram Panchayat (GP), a notification was issued by the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department on October 13 last and it was published by Manipur Gazette yesterday.
Arapti Urup Gram Sabha was formed based on the recommendation of Manipur Gram Sabhas Delimitation Committee under the Manipur Delimitation of Gram Sabha Rules, 1996 .
There will be seven wards under the jurisdiction of the new Gram Panchayat namely Arapti Makha Leikai, Arapti Mayai Leikai, Arapti Mamang Leikai, Arapti Lilong Mapal, Arapti Mayai Leikai, Urup Mayai Leikai and Urup Meitei.
The first three wards were under Kiyamgei Muslim Arapti GP earlier while the fourth and fifth wards were under Lilong Municipal Council and the sixth and seventh wards were under Keirao Makting GP.
Though the above wards have been excluded, Kiyamgei Muslim Arapti GP, Lilong Municipal Council and Keirao Makting GP will still continue to function as it used to earlier.
MLA of Keirao Assembly Constituency and PDA Chairman, Lourembam Rameshwar Meetei welcomed the decision to form the new Arapti Urup Gram Sabha and expressed gratitude to the State Government for the same.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held yesterday at Canchipur, L Rameshwar Meetei has expressed that the Government has fulfilled the long pending dream of the locals of Arapti and Urup by forming the new Gram Panchayat.
On behalf of the locals of Arapti and Urup, he expressed immense gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren; RD and PR Minister, Y Khemchand; Agriculture Minister, Thongam Biswajit; Chief Secretary of RD and PR and top officials of the Law Department.
He further maintained that the State Cabinet had given approval for the formation of a new Gram Panchayat in April, 2021 however it was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic and imposition of Assembly election model code of conduct.
Earlier, there were five Gram Panchayats in Keirao AC and with the addition of the new one, it has increased to six which will eventually help in efficient disbursal of grants and aids provided by various Governmental welfare schemes, he added.
