General strike affects normal life across state

Imphal, October 15 2022:
The general strike imposed by different underground groups in observance of October 15 as National Black Day, brought normal life in Manipur to a standstill.
The general strike, which was imposed to protest against the annexation of Manipur to India, left Khwairamband market completely deserted.
All shops except for pharmacies remained closed in Paona Keithel and Thangal Bazar.
Schools and colleges also remained closed, while all passenger service providers including inter-district and inter-state passenger services ceased work for the day.
Although petrol pumps remained closed, there were movement of some essential services and other private vehicles.
Markets/shops at Lamlong, Kwakeithel, Wangkhei, Kongba and Singjamei and those at district headquarters also remained closed.
However, there were no reports of any unwanted incidents during the general strike.
Thoubal district also wore a deserted look during the general strike with Thoubal Bazar closed down.
Passenger services providers halted services for the day and shops, hotels and oil pumps at Yairipok, Wangjing and Khongjom Keithel remained closed.
Meanwhile, shops at Nambol, Oinam, Bishnupur, Ningthoukhong, Moirang, Kumbi and Kwakta in Bishnupur district were closed down owing to the general strike imposed by CorCom and other outfits on Saturday.
There were less number of people on the road and no passenger service vehicles plied along Tiddim road for the day.
