Maharaja Narasingh's bronze statue unveiled

A bronze statue of Maharaja Narasingh has been unveiled at the western gate of Kangla under the aegis of the Department of Arts and Culture, Manipur today.
The bronze statue of Maharaja Narasingh (Meidingu Leiren Nonglen Sentreng Manikhamba), who ruled Manipur between 6/5/1792 to 11/4/1850, was unveiled by Arts and Culture Commissioner Dr RK Nimai Singh.
The unveiling ceremony was participated by L Birendra, Elangbam Sonamani and the senior most person of the remaining clan of Maharaja Narasingh, RK Modhuchandra.
Speaking at the ceremony, Arts and Culture Director, Dr K Sobita said that the statue was sculpted by sculptor and teacher of Imphal Art College, S Nimai.
He took five years in completing the work.
Maharaja Narasingh was the mighty king, who saved and freed the people of Manipur from the brutal hands of awa (Myanmarese invaders) .
"We can never forget his courage and contribution in giving us the independence.
The statue of the brave soul has been established in his remembrance.
More statues of other brave personalities of Manipur will be established in the coming time", she said.
