Imphal, August 28 2014:
A delegation of BJP Manipur unit today called on Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and submitted a memorandum.
During the meeting which lasted for almost 30 minutes, the BJP delegation appreciated the Union Health Minister's recent move of relieving RIMS Director Prof S Sekharjit of all his official duties.
The State delegates said that RIMS has become another epicentre of corruption just like the highly corrupted Government of Manipur.
Quoting unofficial reports, the delegates said that appointment of a staff nurse at RIMS has a price tag not less than Rs 15 lakh.
Due to shortage or absence of modern equipment, patients who came to RIMS for diagnosis and treatment were referred to private hospitals/clinics which entailed huge expenditures.
Moreover, RIMS has not been providing any material needed for treatment at the hospital, the delegates told Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Hailing the new initiative of the Health Ministry to streamline RIMS administration, the State BJP delegation lamented that the UPA Government's promise to upgrade RIMS to the level of AIIMS has not been fulfilled till date.
Whilst expecting mothers are compelled to lie on the floor of the hospital, patients are being sent to private laboratories even for minor tests like blood test, X-ray etc.
The emergency/casualty ward is also not functioning properly.
In the absence of modern medical equipment, many heart, cancer and kidney patients are being compelled to go outside the State which means a big financial burden to the patients.
After listening patiently to the State's BJP delegates, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan assured that he would come to Manipur and look into infrastructure shortages.
Saying that he himself is a doctor, Dr Harsh Vardhan averred that he would look into all the complaints of administrative lapses as well as infrastructure shortage and take up necessary corrective measures.
BJP Manipur united submitted another memorandum on June 24 last highlighting absence of proper administration at RIMS.
The State BJP delegation who called on the Union Health Minister today included Dr H Borobabu, Dr S Dhananjoy, Sh Shantikumar, S Tiken, S Rajen, Y Khemchand, N Ratan (Kapu), Th Samo, Shyamcharan and Mickle Dangmei.
