Moreh, August 28 2014:
The office building including the garage of Fire Sub-Station, Moreh, which was inaugurated by the then Family Welfare Minister Bijoy Koijam on April 17 in 2002, is now in a dilapidated condition with leaked roof giving way to rain water inside.
Moreover, Moreh Fire sub-station with only 2 officers, 3 drivers and 4 Sepoys, also suffers from lack of requisite staff.
As informed by a staff of the Fire Sub-Station, although tin-roofing was recently done on the building, the walls which were damaged by rainwater still remain decaying.
Anticipating collapse of the walls, even the staff members are afraid of staying inside the rooms at night, he said.
Moreh town is a densely populated area in Chandel district neighboring Myanmar.
Whenever a fire incident happens, the firemen of the Station have to draw water from Lokchao river or Khujairok river, which are located around one kilometer away from the station.
It takes almost one hour in obtaining water.
Meanwhile, Community leaders of Moreh have demanded construction of a 10,000 litres capacity tank at the station, one 5000 litres capacity tank each in the nine wards of Moreh (ward no 1 to 9) in order to enable timely control of fire incident in Moreh and adjoining areas.
