AMSU celebrates 49 years of its existence

The 49th Foundation Day of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) was celebrated at the premises of the union office located inside the DM College campus here today.
Hawaibam Deleep Singh, Director of Education (S) and Thiyam Naresh, president of AMSU were respectively chief guest and president of the celebration which was also attended by Dr Hamom Nabachandra Singh, Chairman of COHSEM and RK Itocha, Asst Prof, Department of Political Science, Imphal College as Guests of Honor.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Naresh said that the union which was set up in 1965 is planning to observe its golden jubilee celebration year-long next year and as part of the celebration, a campaign will be launched to unite people of different communities inhabiting in the northeast region.
He further said that the union will also discuss various measures taken up by it in the past and try to launch its website including profiles of all former office bearers of the union.
Observing that Manipur is lagging behind in every aspect as compared to other States which could be rectified by enhancing the education system, the student leader pointed out that there is the need for transformation of the present education policy in the State.
He also stressed on the need for setting up of a State university taking into consideration of lesser number of seats in Manipur University which is one of the main reasons for the students to go outside for pursuing various Master courses.
Many bright students here in the State are compelled to sit idle in their home State due to failure of getting suitable jobs.
The government should come up with effective measures to provide adequate jobs and ensure that careers of the students who are future of the State are secured, he maintained.
As part of the celebration, a blood donation camp was held during which several students donated their bloods.
