The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has urged the State Government to respond to the letter sent by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on May 29, 2013 .
As per an order issued by the High Court of Manipur on March 27, 2023 and the same Court's modified order passed on May 9, 2023, the Government of Manipur has to respond to the letter sent by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on May 29, 2013 by sending a reply within a period of one year which is expiring on March 28, 2024, the MMTU pointed out in a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister N Biren.
It urged the Chief Minister to make necessary arrangements to respond to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs's letter for inclusion of Meetei (Meitei) in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Constitution of India.
It also reminded that 8,83,650 missed calls were received during the Mass Miss Call Campaign carried out by the MMTU in partnership with the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM), World Meetei Council (WMC), Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) and the Global Meetei Diaspora (GMD) from November 20, 2023 to December 31, 2023 .
