Probe ordered into arms loot, Ccpur violence incidents

The state's Home Department has ordered for conduct of a magisterial inquiry into the case of looting of weapons from an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp at Chingarel, Imphal East district on February 13 .
As per the order, Imphal East District Magistrate Khumanthem Diana has been appointed as the inquiry authority to investigate the incident and propose measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The enquiry report must be submitted to the government within 30 days.
Mention may be made here that police had arrested six individuals involved in the case, while seven IRB personnel have been suspended pending completion of a departmental inquiry.
So far, police have recovered four INSAS rifles, one AK Ghatak 2, SLR magazines, and 16 boxes of 9mm ammunition, believed to have been stolen from the camp.
On the other hand, the state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the mob violence in Churachandpur district on February 16.The violence had erupted following the suspension of a Manipur Police head constable, which resulted in two deaths and 30 injuries.
The violence also left the Churachandpur Mini Secretariat, the housing complexes of the DC and the SP gutted.
As per the order, the inquiry is necessary for investigating the circumstance, violence, vandalism, and seditious acts that resulted in loss of life and property, as well as threats to the lives of the DC and SP in Churachandpur.
The report is to be submitted within 30 days.
Hours after suspension of a head constable, a mob numbering hundreds targeted the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police in Churachandpur and destroyed properties and assets.
Police vehicles were also torched by the mob.
The state government stated that the officers were attacked "with a view to inciting anti-establishment feelings" .
"The state government is of the opinion that it is necessary to institute a magisterial enquiry to ascertain facts and circumstances leading to the crimes/violence/vandalism/arson of seditious nature and loss of lives, intimidation and threats to the lives of the DC and SP, Churachandpur..." the state government order said, appointing DC Dharun Kumar as the enquiry authority to conduct the magisterial probe.
The enquiry into the incident has been announced to "ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the incident(s)", the order stated.
