IGAR assures meeting of MCM with Moreh CSOs

Acknowledging that there can be no peace sans Meeteis in Moreh, IGAR South Major General Ravroop Singh has reportedly assured Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) to facilitate a joint meeting of all civil society organisations (CSOs) in Moreh including that of the Meeteis.
In a release, MCM informed that its representatives led by president Mayanglambam Thoiba met with major general Ravroop Singh on Monday during which the general officer was briefed about the May 3 incident and subsequent acts of violence that forced the Meetei people to leave the border town.
In response, the IGAR (south) acknowledged that efforts for restoration of peace in Moreh would remain futile in case the displaced Meeteis are not resettled made part and parcel of Moreh.
While expressing that restoration of peace in the border town will entail harmonious co-existence of all the communities, he also stressed that CSOs of Moreh need to sit together along with the Meeteis and discuss the prevailing issue.
He also assured the MCM representatives of arranging a meeting between the Meeteis and other Moreh CSOs, the release added.
Mention may be made that in January this year, the MCM wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking settlement and rehabilitation of all the people driven out of Moreh since 1991.Moreh is just 4 km to the west of Myanmar's largest border town Tamu.
