Exposure tour for bee farmers flagged off

A seven-day exposure tour for bee farmers to Jorhat in Assam, which is being organised by Manipur Beekeeping and Honey Mission (MBHM) of the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur, was flagged off from the directorate's office, here, on Monday morning.
MBHM mission director and joint director (horticulture and soil conservation) Zakir Hussain flagged off the team comprising 25 bee farmers and officials.
Before flagging off the team, Zakir Hussain told media persons that beekeeping not only enhances income of farmers but also increases productivity of crops.
Beekeeping can be done without any investment and land and it is very easy to take up beekeeping successfully as could be comprehended from scientists proving that beekeeping could enhance crop productivity by 30-40 percent.
Global experts have also shared their observations in books and through researches that it would be the last stage of Earth's survival if there is no bee.
Zakir Hussain informed that the state beekeepers will visit Assam Agricultural University at Jorhat and inspect bee farms of the university to get acquainted with advanced knowledge on beekeeping.
Participating bee farmers should share the knowledge gained from the exposure tour to local bee farmers so that beekeeping could be taken up widely in the state, he emphasised.
