Kuki militants target Sugnu for 6th day

Imphal, February 19 2024:
Even as Kuki militants attacked Sugnu for the 6th consecutive day, targeting Meitei villages as well as security personnel on Monday, the Government has not yet made any tangible effort to dislodge the Kuki militants who are taking positions at Lailophai and Dongyang Kuki villages of Churachandpur district.
Using bombs and bullets, Kuki militants targeted several Meitei villages of Sugnu area this morning.
As a result, some more houses were damaged but there was no human casualty.
Meitei village volunteers also retaliated by firing some rounds of bullets toward the Kuki militants.
The Kuki militants launched their attack early in the morning and it went on for several hours before they ceased firing at around 8 am.

In the afternoon, Kuki militants attacked BSF personnel deployed on the river bank of Sugnu with bombs and bullets.
BSF personnel also fired back using light machine guns.
Intermittent firing was reported from both sides till the time of filing this report.
Sources said that there might be some injuries on the side of Kuki militants in retaliatory firing by village volunteers.
With the Kuki militants attacking the area relentlessly, village volunteers and security personnel have been maintaining a strict vigil round the clock.
Kuki militants usually carry out heavy attacks with bombs and bullets on Meitei villages of Sugnu during night.
Intermittent firing was on till the time of filing this report late in the evening today.
