Imphal, February 19 2024:
Extending solidarity and support to the volunteers who have been defending Meitei villages from Kuki narco-terrorists, a newly married couple forwent the customary practice of Mapam Chakkouba and donated the money to village defence volunteers which otherwise would be spent on hosting the post marriage sumptuous feast for hundreds of people.
The couple got married on February 14 and today is their Mapam Chakkouba day.
But the couple, as agreed by their parents, restricted the Mapam Chakkouba ceremony to just a handful of people.
By forgoing the Mapam Chakkouba ceremony which is usually organised in a lavish manner, the couple donated Rs 20,000 and some medicines including first aid items to village defence volunteers.

The bridegroom and the bride who came up with the novel idea of donating their Mapam Chakkouba expenses to village volunteers are Soibam Robinchandra (24) s/o Robindro of Keinou Thongthak Maning Leikai, Bishnupur district and Maibam Nishita (20) d/o Maibam Tobaskar of Soi-bam Leikai Wangkhei Khu- nou (Konjeng Poila Leikai) .
Maibam Tobaskar said that a number of innocent Meitei people have been killed by Kuki militants and their supporters after they launched a premeditated military offensive against unarmed Meitei people with the objective of creating an exclusive political domain for Kuki-Zo people by disintegrating Manipur.
The Kuki militants and their supporters have also burnt down thousands of Meitei houses, forcing tens of thousands to take refuge in relief camps, he said.
Compelled by the relentless attack, many Meitei youth came out and volunteered to fight the Kuki narco-terrorists and their supporters.
A number of Meitei youth have laid down their lives fighting against Kuki narco-terrorists to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, Tobaskar said.
"We are able to sleep peacefully because our brave volunteers have been keeping a strict vigil round the clock in foothill areas and fighting Kuki narco-terrorists", said the bride's father.
"Had there been no village defence volunteers, Manipur could have suffered a greater devastation than the Seven Years Devastation of 1819-25 at the hands of heavily armed Chin-Kuki infiltrators from Myanmar'', he added.
The shradha ceremony of ex-MLA Salam Gopal was solemnised on February 17 at Moirang Kumam Leikai and people's support and love for village defence volunteers was also demonstrated in the shradha ceremony too.
People who attended the shradha ceremony not only offered money to the pala but also put money in a donation box kept at the mandap for village defence volunteers.
