CAU holds training programme on IFS

Imphal, February 19 2024:
Directorate of Extension Education of Central Agricultural University, Imphal in collaboration with ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya launched a training programme themed 'Integrated Farming System Approach in NE Hill Region of India' at Directorate of Extension Education, CAU-NEC Model Farm, Lamphelpat.
The event was attended by CAU, Imphal director S Basanta as chief guest, director of Extension Education Ph Ranjit Sharma as president, and CAU deputy director of extension education Th Robindro, Deepaknath and T Matouleibi as the guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, director Basanta expressed that effective adoption and implementation of Integrated Farming System (IFS) will help spur the natural farming movement in India and prove beneficial to Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) .
IFS, he explained, is a sustainable farming system which if used aptly can enhance profit from farm produce, whereas adoption of natural farming will reduce cost of agricultural activities as one may use locally available materials including farm yard manure.
As such, the director suggested that state farmers join exposure visit programme, as and when invited, to states such as Gujarat and Haryana to get acquainted with natural farming, also known as 'Zero Base Budget Farming'.
Meanwhile, highlighting importance of the training programme on IFS, Extension Education director Ph Ranjit said that northeast India is suitable for integrated farming system.
The training programme was attended by about 40 persons from different parts of the state.
