Imphal, February 19 2024:
Angered by the delayed student union election, students blocked the entrance of the Administration Block of Dhanamanjuri University today.
Despite assurance given by the Vice Chancellor, election has not been held, said the students, who blocked the A-Block entrance with logs and burnt a makeshift shed in front the block which was used by labourers.
Even as the students vandalised some chairs in the A-Block, police came to control the situation.
DM College of Arts student Ksh Medhajit said the students have been urging the authorities to hold the election since November last year.
The DMU authority has "failed" to deliver every demand students have made.
If the election is not held and the demands are not met, then the students will boycott the Vice Chancellor and Registrar, said a student.
There are many vacancies and shortages in the DMU, which must be filled by the authorities concerned at the earliest, the student.
Meanwhile, students met with the University Registrar in the evening today.
During the meeting, the Registrar has given assurance to inform higher authorities regarding the election and deliver other demands, said sources.
