Imphal, February 19 2024:
Maintaining that the State has successfully upskilled many conflict survivors in different ways to earn a livelihood, Joint Committee on Affected Meetei Victims' Manipur has appealed to the Government to make the raw/input materials for these ventures available to the survivors at low cost.
A press release issued by Thoiba Ningthoucha, co-convenor, Joint Committee on Affected Meetei Victims' Manipur also urged the State Government to purchase the items produced by the trained survivors and set up a specific place/market area for these products to be sold.
The Committee reasoned that due to lack of funds to purchase the input materials, the skills of numerous well-trained conflict survivors continue to remain unutilized.
In addition, due to the absence of a designated market area, the conflict survivors have resorted to selling their wares either along the roadsides or by going door-to-door.
Highlighting the plight of the conflict survivors, the Committee appealed to the Manipur Government to take up the aforementioned measures at the earliest.
Further, the Committee has also reiterated the demand for release of phase-wise interim monetary relief for the victims of violence as listed in the memorandum submitted by the Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Moreh (COPMeV) to the Manipur Governor, Chief Minister and Chief Secretary.
