Thoubal, July 11 2023:
Where have all the civil society organisations (CSOs) which were very active at the time of elections gone when the State has been thrown into its toughest challenges, asked police officer turned politician Brinda Thounaojam.
A public convention under the banner "Eikhoi Punsillasi" was organised by KIHOM and LIYDC Khangabok at Khangabok Mayai Leikai Lai today.
Addressing the convention, the ex-MPS officer said that it would be very difficult to deal with external aggression if the enemies within are given free hand to do whatever they fancy.
It is equally important for all to know the threat which exists within the State too, Brinda said and asked how many CSOs have come out boldly during this difficult period to keep the unity and integrity of Manipur intact.
Where have all the CSOs which were very active at the time of election gone when the State is burning for 67 days, she asked.
She went on to state that Meeteis have not only been targeted, killed, robbed of their land, their houses burnt but have also been blamed for the violence in Manipur and added that there are no leaders to guide the people or stand for Manipur now.
Further stating that all CSOs and the State Government have become toothless, Brinda claimed that the presence of CSOs was felt at the time of election but not when Manipur is under tremendous pressure.
Claiming that the Central Government, Manipur Government and their security faces have taken side with the enemy of the State, Brinda continued that only the Manipuri people can now decide the fate of the State.
The programme was also attended by the Editor of Sanaleibak daily Ningombam Hemanta.
A similar public convention was also held at Thoubal Ningombam Bazar.
