Thousands attend Subol's burial at Iroisemba

Thousands of people took out a rally and attended the burial ceremony of Saikhom Subol alias Sanjit of Uripok Naoremthong at Iroishemba Thongak Cheng-jel on Tuesday.
Subol was killed in an attack by Kuki militants at Kadangband Part-1 on Monday.
After completion of the post mortem at RIMS mortuary on Tuesday, a large number of people from different locations arrived to join his final journey and subsequent rites.
At about 12.30pm, his body was taken from the Morgue carried in a procession passing through Kombirei Keithel and Uripok Canteen road till the foot of Bir Tikendrajit Flyover before detouring to Uripok road.
Subol's body was then taken to his residence at Uripok Naoremthong, where the gathering offered floral tributes.
Shortly, the mortal remains were taken to Iroishemba, with people along the way continuing to offer floral tributes.
At around 5.30pm, Subol was interred at Iroishemba Ihongak Chengjel.
During the procession, various placards with slogans like "Remove Assam Rifles from Manipur", "Long Live Manipur", Implement NRC in Manipur", "Stop using Indian security forces Against Meiteis", "Withdraw SoO Immediately" and "Stop using cross border terrorist against Meiteis", were also raised.
It may be mentioned here that Uripok Apunba Lup had submitted a memorandum to the Governor and the chief minister on Monday, demanding removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur within 15 days; dismantle bunkers in hills inhabited by Kukis; relocation of SoO camps; formation of a 4-5 member committee consisting of MLAs/ministers to monitor the violence related matters; constitute a committee to identify the victims of Kuki militants including their families; setting up another committee for deployment of security forces in Meitei villages under threat of Kukis; forming a core committee of 4-5 MLAs to ensure free movement along the highway; forming a peace initiative committee to monitor public information, rumours and other propagandas which could hinder the peace restoration process of the state, while also ensuring close coordination with local clubs, CSOs, Meira Paibi and student unions on banning illegal substances; and formation of another committee to see to the distribution of relief materials, health care, food and basic needs, free-medical services for those injured by Kuki militants and dispersal of ex gratia as soon as possible.
