Kakching, July 11 2023:
Scores of people took out a torch rally at Sekmaijin protesting against the alleged inhumane killing of Irengbam Chingkheinganba (26) and Sagolsem Nganleiba (33) by suspected Kuki militants on July 4 and the State Government's failure to locate their bodies.
It may be noted that Irengbam Chingkheinganba, s/o Irengbam Dhana and Sagolshem Nganleiba, s/o Sagolshem Ibochou hailed from Sekmaijin Khunou under Kakching district.
They had volunteered to defend the village at Leikinthabi which is under the jurisdiction of Sekmai PS when they were reportedly captured and killed by suspected Kuki militants.
Last night's torch rally was organised by the 'JAC against the brutal killing of Sagolsem Nganleiba Meitei and Irengbam Chingkheinganba Meitei of Sekmaijin Khunou by Kuki militants' and witnessed a large turnout of people from Sekmaijin and its surrounding villages.

The rally goers met at Sekmaijin bridge and started off the rally, then reached Uchiwa under Imphal West and proceeded to return to Sekmaijin Police Outpost.
The rally finally culminated the torch rally at the starting point.
The protestors shouted many slogans demanding the State Government to handover the bodies of Sagolsem Nganleiba Meitei and Irengbam Chingkheinganba Meitei to their families, abrogation of SoO pact with Kuki militants, strict punishment for Kuki militants who have violated SoO ground rules, withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur and condemned the killing of innocent civilians by Kuki militants.
Speaking by the sideline of the rally, Thingujam Kiran, JAC convenor questioned why the State Government had failed to locate the bodies of the two men even after 7 days.
Expressing hope that the State Government will handover the bodies of the two to their respective families at the earliest, he also denounced the silence of the Central Government in connection with this two-month old conflict that has engulfed Manipur.
Following in this vein, he added that if the Central Government wants to resolve the conflict then it can be achieved by restricting the SoO militants to their designated camps.
Doing so will contain the violence within a few days, he said.
Separately, similar torch rallies were taken out at Keirak and Wabagai in support of the JAC's initiative.
