Notice served to ex-MLA Indrajit

Imphal, July 11 2023:
The Supreme Court has served notice to ex-MLA N Indrajit of Kshetrigao assembly constituency in connection with a special leave petition filed by incumbent MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan against a judgment of the High Court of Manipur regarding an election petition against the MLA.
The MLA filed the petition on the ground that the impugned judgment of the High Court is erroneous in law and on the facts on record and the petitioner has a 'prima facie good case.
Unless the impugned judgment is stayed, the High Court will proceed to hear and decide the election petition, in which event lot of prejudice would be caused to the petitioner who will suffer irreparable loss and injury for not being able to defend the election petition properly, the petition mentioned.
The MLA, in his petition to the apex court, appealed that the impugned judgment passed by the High Court of Manipur may be stayed till the final disposal of the petition.
After hearing the petition, the apex court issued notice to ex-MLA N Indrajit and made it returnable within three weeks.
