Imphal, July 11 2023:
A group of 31 MLAs have taken a collective resolution to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to bring lasting peace in the State.
The MLAs plan to propose to the Union Home Minister to replace the 9 Assam Rifles, the 22 Assam Rifles, and the 37 Assam Rifles with other Central security forces 'that are more inclined towards promoting the unity of the State' .
They said that there are concerns regarding the roles being played by certain units of the Assam Rifles.
The MLAs plan to urge the Union Home Minister to launch a comprehensive investigation into the public display of firearms and ammunition during the Peace March held on July 5 in Churachandpur and questions regarding the source of these arms and ammunition, as well as their continuous availability which play a crucial role in the violence, said the MLAs.

The Union Home Minister will be urged to take stronger and effective actions against armed insur- gent/cross border armed insurgent groups operating in the State.
Reiterating their commitment to initiate decisive measures against these armed groups that have violated the established ground rules of engagement, the MLAs observed that it is inconceivable for any conflict to persist for such an extended period without the support of such armed factions.
The MLAs also affirmed that violence in peripheral areas must be halted.
Saying that the Central security forces must adopt a more proactive approach to ensure lasting peace in the region, the MLAs said they can work towards achieving a peaceful solution through extensive consultations with all stakeholders involved once all forms of violence and aggression cease in these areas.
The MLAs said that enhanced security measures, such as increased highway patrolling along National Highway 2 are necessary to facilitate safe transportation of goods and people and also complete border fencing along the Manipur section of the Indo-Myanmar border.
