82 pc displaced students enrolled under special scheme

Almost 82 per cent of the students displaced by the ongoing violence has been covered under the special free education programme with most of them enrolled in schools located nearby the relief camps.
Since the eruption of violence on May 3, many people including young students have been taking shelter in relief camps opened at different places of the state.
In view of present situation, Education (S) Department included a special provision to provide free education to the students displaced at government schools located nearby relief camp they are residing at present.
The special provision was taken up for students studying in class I to XII and one control room for the same was also opened for updation.
As per report available from the control room, enrolment of displaced students reached 82 percent.
Under the special programme of the government, Peace and Relief Com mittee, Singjamei has been shouldering responsibility to provide free education to students taking shelter at Manipur College.
According to Committee's education and media coordinator K Gunachandra, altogether 69 students from pre-primary to college level staying in the relief camp have enrolled in different schools and Colleges.
For pre-primary students, Little House, Singjamei have shouldered the responsibility with food for the students during school hours is being borne by proprietor of the school, he said.
Gunachandra further said that Pettigrew junior high school has highest enrolment of the displaced students at 35 while other students were enrolled at Chingamakha high school, Heiran-goithong high school, TG higher secondary school and Ram Lai Paul higher secondary school.
For BA level students, process is being made to enrol them at Kakching Khunou College, he added.
