Imphal, July 11 2023:
Considering possibility of unwanted incidents erupting anywhere, anytime amid the unrest situation in the state, All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation (AMSGO) has urged the state government to lift the ban on internet service and enable conduct of online classes as was done during the COVID pandemic.
Noting that the state government has issued order for resumption of class from I to VIII standard after over 2 months of closure due to the ethnic violence, AMSGO general secretary Sumati Sougrakpam pointed out most of the parents are reluctant to send their children to school fearing occurrence of unwanted incidents, consequently showing poor attendance of students in schools.
She further informed that the situation has not normalised as sporadic gun fights are being reported in the peripheral areas and foothills.
Under such a condition, parents fear sending their wards to school, she reasoned and suggested that the government explore the option to provide online classes for the students by lifting the ban on internet services at the soonest possible.
