Imphal, February 18 2024:
Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) convened a general assembly on Sunday and elected its new office bearers for the next two years.
The new officer bearers were administered oath by retired IAS RK Nimai at Manipur Press Club.
The newly elected office bearers are Asem Prince (president), Suresh Koijam (vice president), Laishram James (general secretary), Sanasam Abhiraj (assistant secretary), Lamyanba Sarangthem (finance secretary), Birendra Thangjam (assistant finance secretary), Tongbram Nardaya (organisation secretary), Kshetrimayum Osiya (assistant organisation secretary), Mayengbam Premanda (Publicity secretary), Konjengbam Samananda (assistant publicity secretary), Leisemba Chingangbam (auditor) and 17 other executive members.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Nimai remarked that the hill brethren used to have the spirit of nationalism in the early days, but the spirit started withering after the 1980s.He stressed the need for reviving this spirit, adding that joint development and progress is possible only when both the hills and valley work together.
Emphasising the role of youth in the current situation, he urged for encouraging those who have come forward to defend the motherland.
People can be divided into groups to address the shortcomings in the social, political and environmental fields, in addition to looking into other shortcomings as well.
Nimai then said that the youth have played a key role in forming the powerful nations in the world.
However, the future of Manipur is quite bleak.
As such, we need to elect representatives who would sincerely represent the wishes of the people.
Candidates from political parties who consider the country more important than the party must be fielded, he remarked, adding that such leaders would eventually bring numerous positives to the state.
