Imphal, February 18 2024:
Urging chief minister N Biren Singh to take firm actions instead of swearing at elements posing threat to integrity of Manipur, Imagi Meira said there is no justification in registering criminal cases against the youth of Manipur who are serving as village volunteers due to failure of the government to resolve the unrest situation.
Addressing media persons at its Tera office, on Sunday, Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata demanded that the upcoming session of the state assembly prioritise discussion on punitive actions against the 10 Kuki MLAs.
Moreover, the SoO agreement, which will lapse on February 29, should figure in the session and members adopt resolutions to abrogate the pact as Kuki outfits bound by SoO are involved in attacking Meetei villages violating the ground rules.
Claiming to have evidences of certain Assam Rifles units aiding Kuki militants, she cautioned that the people might be compelled to resort to extreme measures in case the assembly fails to honour the people's demand and wishes.
The convenor also raised strong objection against the government move to conduct extensive operation in Sugnu especially as a time when Kuki militants are launching intense offensive on Meetei villages for the past few days.
While asserting that Meeteis did not start the conflict but are only defending peripheral villages from attack by Kuki militants, she pointed out that there is no valid reason to register FIRs against the village volunteers as they are sim ply protecting lives and properties of the general population due to inefficiency of the government machinery to shield the vulnerable section of the society.
