With the goal of empowering conflict affected women, the Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation and 16 Kumaon Regiment distributed yam for weaving to the womenfolk of Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai.
The aid initiative was held under the banner of "Empowering women of Phougakchao Ikhai by art of Handlooms" with the attendance of SDC Kumbi W Ranjan; M Rakeshchand, SDC Branch Office Bishnupur; Th Ravi, Manager Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation; Gajendra Singh, Lieutenant 16 Kumaon Regiment; Kegesana, president, Phougakchao Ikhai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup.
The yam were distributed to womenfolk of the area who had their own looms and had resettled in their original homes after fleeing due to the conflict.
Separately, Apunba Lamding Cherapur Meira Paibi under Thoubal district have donated essential items to the village volunteers of Khamenlok today.
The relief team was led by Longjam Somoshini Devi and Laishram Mala Devi, president and secretary respectively of Apunba Lamding Cherapur Meira Paibi.
They donated 2 tins of cooking oil, eggs, cabbages, cauliflowers, lentils, 10 cases of drinking water, raisins, mustard, potatoes, 3 bags of rice etc and Rs 2000 in cash.
The team was also accompanied by executive members of SWC, Lamding Cherapur Leikai.
