Gunfight continues at Sugnu, one injured

Continuing their attacks on Sugnu villages, Kuki militants unleashed bombs and fired several rounds at the small town on Sunday as one village volunteer suffered bomb shrapnel wounds, though his condition is stated to be stable.
Kuki militants from Lailoiphai and Dongyang villages in Churachandpur district have been launching intermittent attacks towards Sugnu town since February 14.The militants had managed to take over Napat area of Kumbi assembly constituency, located close to the Manipur River that was originally a Meetei settlement.
On Saturday night, Kuki militants suspectedly saddled at Dongyang village fired several bombs which landed on houses at Sugnu Makha Leikai and along Sugnu River, causing extensive damages.
However, no one was injured.
The BSF posted in the location along with the village volunteers returned fire.
On Sunday, after a brief lull, Kuki militants resumed firing bombs, while the Meetei village volunteer retaliated.
Owing to continuous attacks, top officers of Manipur Police also arrived at the location and took stock of the situation.
The militants against fired several bombs at Sugnu Makha Leikai around 7pm Sunday.
During the attack, one village volunteer sustained injuries after getting hit with bomb shrapnel.
He was taken to Sugnu CHC for treatment.
Meanwhile, the gunfight continued late into the night.
