Bishnupur, February 18 2024:
Reminding all concerned that the Thangjing Hill has been the sacred abode of Ibudhou Thangjing since time immemorial, Committee on Protection and Preservation of Historical Rights of Koubru and Thangjing Hill Ranges, Manipur stated that Kukis who started settling in Manipur only in the 18th century cannot claim the historical site as theirs as contended by Ukha Loikhai village chief.
Addressing media persons at Ibudhou Thangjing Laikon on Sunday, Committee secretary Y Shyam Khuman said that the clarification made by Ukha Loikhai village chief Thenkhomang Haokip claiming he is owner of the Thangjing Hill historical site and chief of the village and that no one has the right to interfere in whatever he does in his land, is not only baseless but provocative, condemnable in the strongest terms.
He said that Ibudhou Thangjing site is clearly mentioned in the Wakoklol Heelel Salai Amailon Pukok Puya written in 1398 BC, authenticated by the National Archives and recorded in Moirang Kangleirol.
The Kuki community who came to Manipur only in the 18th century has no right to claim the site as theirs.
It is reprehensible that such baseless claims are being propagated of late, the secretary expressed and urged authority concerned to intervene and take up necessary legal actions against Ukha Loikhai village chief Thenkhomang Haokip.
