Ukhrul, February 18 2024:
Tangkhul Naga Timbers Association has appealed to the Forest Department to revoke the transfer orders of District Forest Officers (DFOs) of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts considering the hardships faced by the timber traders of the two districts.
TNTA has warned of subsequent democratic agitation otherwise.
YL Rin president, TNTA made the appeal during a press conference held today at 3 In 1 Hotel, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
Taking strong exception to the recent reshuffling of DFOs, YL Rin said that reshuffling at this time is not appropriate for the poor timber traders.
This short dry season is the only favourable time to enhance timber business and is the peak season for them, he reasoned.
"Recent transfer of DFO Ukhrul Shangam Shaliwo and Kamjong DFO Suisa to other districts has hampered the settlement of some issues related to our ongoing work", YL Rin added.
According to him, this will pose a delay in obtaining Transit Permit (TP) and other file processes.
Meanwhile, Athot, advisor TNTA mentioned that local officers running the office have more advantages, convenience and help enhance the people's work.
According to Athot, Ukhrul and Kamjong district generate the highest revenue under the two DFOs Shangam and Suisa because of their efficiency and diligence in their duty.
The departmental forest projects were also successfully implemented in the district, added Athot.
TNTA further warned that any individual persons trading timber related forest products in Ukhrul and Kamjong district should first obtain prior permission from the Association to prevent outside interferences.
Tangkhul Naga Timber Association further urged the Forest Minister for his immediate intervention to revoke the transfer orders and stay the orders of the two DFOs of Ukhrul and Kamjong district, failing which the Association will resort to different forms of democratic agitation to show their objection against the untimely transferring of officers, he maintained.
