Four IRB recruits injured in Assam clash

Imphal, February 03 2024:
At least four recruits of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) belonging to Meetei community, who are undergoing training in Assam's Lachit Borphukan police academy, Dergaon, were injured in a clash among the recruits on Saturday.
Source said that the incident occurred on Saturday around 8 pm when large number of IRB recruits, who belong to Kuki community attacked a group of Meetei IRB recruits.
Four Meetei recruits were reportedly injured in the attack with one of them hit by a machete injury on his head.
The injured recruits have been taken to hospital.
Identities of the injured persons are not known.
The source further said that senior officers of Assam police rushed there to take stock of the situation.
A senior police officer reportedly assured the recruits that those involved in the incident will be dealt with as per the law.
Cheif Minister N Biren talked with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma over the phone and discussed the matter.
The Assam CM assured N Biren to take up necessary measures to prevent such incidents in future.
Meanwhile, tension is high in the police training academy following the incident and further details are awaited.
The recruits belonging to 10th and 11th IRB were sent to the police training academy in Assam keeping in view of the conflict in the state.
Initially, the government planned to send them by road but the plan was cancelled and the recruits were airlifted to ensure
their safety.
